Chandragiri is a charming hill town in Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley that has a long history. It is very significant to the nation’s history and culture.
According to prehistoric history people have lived in the area around Chandragiri for a very long period. It was a piece of the Kshatriya principality of the Kathmandu Valley. The Licchavi period saw the flourishing of art, culture, and trade in the region. In medieval period Chandragiri came under the control of the Malla monarchs of the Kathmandu Valley during the medieval era. From the 12th until the 18th century, the Malla dynasty exercised control over several regions of Nepal and significantly influenced the heritage of the area.
Chandragiri acquired enormous historical significance during the unification of Nepal by King Prithvi Narayan Shah. The founder of modern Nepal, King Prithvi Narayan Shah, began an effort to unite many tiny principalities into one country in the middle of the 18th century. One of the crucial locations he took during his drive for unification was Chandragiri.
King Prithvi Narayan Shah recognized the strategic importance of Chandragiri due to its vantage point overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. To bolster his security and safeguard the Valley from outside dangers, he built a fort on Chandragiri Hill.
There are several ways to go to Chandragiri Hills, which is around 7 kilometers from Kathmandu. The easiest and most convenient way is to depart from Thankot, which is located outside of Kathmandu, and go by cable car. The surrounding mountains and valleys may be seen in amazing detail throughout the 10-minute cable car ride.
Visitors have the option of taking a taxi or local bus from Kathmandu to Thankot, where they can then take a cable car to the top of Chandragiri Hills.
Chandragiri has recently experienced significant growth as a tourist attraction. To make the slope easier for guests to reach, a cable car system was built. It is one of the best places to observe the Kathmandu valley from Chandragiri Hills is where it is naturally gorgeous. Additionally, you can view the larger mountains, including Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and Mount Manaslu. If the weather is clear and you have your own pair of binoculars, you can still travel from Everest on the east to Annapurna on the west.
