Women  Safety

Women uphold the position of goodness in our society. They were believed to represent Laxmi, Durga, and Kali. The rivers, mountains are also worshiped in the name of women. Women are the incarnations of everything on earth. Without women, the generations will not continue. Every power which is required to lead a comfortable life is believed to be accorded by women. For example, Laxmi is considered the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Durga is considered to be the goddess of power, and Saraswati is regarded as the goddess of knowledge and education.

Despite being treated as goodness there is a serious concern over the safety of women in Nepal. The crime against women has extended mainly over the past few decades. Women have to think twice before going out of the house during the day or at night. Women have an equal right to participate in different activities in spite of living in fear of being molested and staring eyes. Women are not safe in public places, in public vehicles, or even in their own houses. Coming to the cause in many under-developed countries like Nepal people think that roaming in the night, drinking at a bar, and wearing a skirt is the main cause of sexual assaults, but the real cause is the fewer amount of punishment and sometimes no punishment. The culprits will be seen roaming around freely while victims are seen as some untouchable person and this kind of treatment often leads to risking their lives by suicide.

Another instance is where a boy’s education is considered mainstream but a girl’s education is neglected. This gives stereotype thinking in men to treat a woman the way they like. Women are not safe in their own homes. Sometimes a relative is found continuously assaulting them and the parents too do not speak in the fear of losing their relationship with the culprits.

And we have to raise a voice against it. Every second woman are being tortured. When we turn the pages of news we come across many headlines reporting cases of sexual assault, molestation, sexual harassment, rapes, women trafficking, ill-treatment of women in the house, violence against women, etc. So, there are some safety precautions that are helpful for women. While traveling in a public vehicle any activity which involves passing negative comments, harassment, a woman should be ready with their weapon to have a suitable escape for this kind of situation. On the other hand, we should give awareness to women about women’s safety and better provide any kind of training related to martial arts or karate which helps girls to fight back. Street lights, bus station pavements, waiting rooms, public toilets, public transport which are GPS enabled, CCTV, etc. should keep women safe. So, we should implement them in such places.

To conclude, technology has provided a great platform to pursue a great environment for women’s safety but at the same time, the lesser action and less self-awareness creates a hindrance in the process of ensuring women’s safety.
